This month, in observance of Saint Valentine’s Day, we are focusing on Christine’s first “interior design loves.” Some of her first inspirations came from the books Dollhouse Magic by P.K. Roche and Miniature Rooms: The Thorne Rooms at the Art Institute of Chicago. Possessing an appreciation for dollhouse interiors is one of the many influences that is at the heart of Christine’s passion for design.
One of the first things to initiate Christine’s interest in interior design was the book pictured below. Learning to combine the right colors, furniture and artwork, taught her all of the elements needed to create a successful interior. The book also sparked her creativity and motivated her to transform everyday household trinkets as new decor within her own dollhouse. What began as a fun hobby in early childhood later transpired into a fascination with period-style furniture and a flair for spacial planning the rooms within a home.
The book pictured here features models which recreate 68 European and American period interiors from the 16th to the 20th century. These miniature rooms are displayed at the Art Institute of Chicago. Mrs. James Ward Thorne constructed these models on a scale of one inch to one foot and inspired Christine with her attention to detail. This craft gave Christine the opportunity to learn more about her passion in life and planted the seed in producing one of Northeast Ohio’s top interior designers. One of her dollhouse designs was recently featured in a showhouse appearance in Cleveland, Ohio. At Christine Haught, Ltd. we continue to be inspired by fine craftsmanship and design.
“Design is in everything we make, but it’s also between those things. It’s a mix of craft, science, storytelling, propaganda, and philosophy.” – Erik Adigard
